Halloween Read Alouds and Craftivities for Primary Grades

The most BOO-tiful time of year is upon us and my love for fall and Halloween has resulted in some seriously SKELE-fun crafts to go along with some of my absolute favorite read alouds!

Bone Soup by Alyssa Satin Capucilli is such a sweet and spooky tale of witches adding special ingredients to their bone soup. My class and I create an anchor chart (with the skill of labeling in mind) and add special ingredients to our very own bone soup. Students then create their own craftivity!

There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Bat by Lucille Colandro is a batty tale full of rhymes and ghoulish fun. My class and I use this read aloud to help inspire us to create different Halloween characters who swallow beginning sounds which results in eek-tastic objects in their bellies.

Frankencrayon by Michael Hall tells of a show that comes to a halt due to a scary scribble. Have your students create their own object from a scribble, and help them with their color indentification with this colorful and creative craft!

Where's my Mummy by Carolyn Crimni is a great SEL read aloud to help address feeling fearful, and brainstorming ways in which we can feel better. My students WRAP up this lesson by identifying their own fears and coping mechanisms using this craft!

Ten Little Pumpkins by Rosie Greening has the sweetest pumpkin illustrations and helps students with ordering numbers in descending order. My students create these gourd-geous crafts afterwards!

10 Busy Brooms by Carole Gerber is a story of 10 witches trying to fit onto one broom. In order to solve the witches problem and assist with matching amounts, students create their own rhyming read aloud about how many brooms a number of witches will need!

Last but not least, my students always enjoy these three punny sight word crafts!!!
